Paul-Peter P. Sotiriadis
I am a Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), Greece, and serve as the Director of the Electronics Laboratory at NTUA. Additionally, I am a member of the Board of Directors of the National (Hellenic) Space Center of Greece (HSC) [ www.hsc.gov.gr ]. I am also honored to hold the position of President at the Association of Artificial Intelligence, AI Catalyst, [ www.aicatalyst.gr ].
Furthermore, I hold the role of Chair for the IEEE Circuits and Systems & Solid-State Circuits Joint Chapter in Greece. Prior to my current position, I held the title of Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Johns Hopkins University, USA.
My professional achievements include being recognized as a Fellow of both the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) and the Asia-Pacific Artificial Intelligence Association (AAIA). My educational journey includes earning a Diploma degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from NTUA with the highest ever GPA, an M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University, USA, and a Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA. During my Ph.D. years, I was affiliated with the MIT Laboratory for Information and Decision Systems and the MIT Microsystems Technology Laboratory.
I lead a dedicated team of approximately 30 researchers and professional designers, leveraging my dual technical background in Information Systems and Electronics, to introduce innovative ideas and solutions in both my academic research and industry collaborations. My team and I have engaged in collaborations with major US and EU companies, research centers, and laboratories, resulting in numerous large projects and major contributions.
My research portfolio includes authoring and coauthoring over 200 research publications, predominantly in IEEE journals and conferences. I hold one patent and have contributed to several technical book chapters. My dedication and contributions to the field have been recognized with several awards, including the prestigious Guillemin-Cauer Award from the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society in 2012 and eight Best Paper Awards in IEEE International Conferences. I was also honored with the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society (CASS) Outstanding Technical Committee Recognition in 2022.
In addition to my research and academic responsibilities, I actively engage in professional service. I currently serve as an Associate Editor of the IEEE Sensors Journal and have previously held roles as an Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems – I (2016-2020) and IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems – II (2005-2010). I have been an active member of technical committees for numerous conferences and regularly contribute as a reviewer for various IEEE transactions and conferences. I also participate in proposal review panels.
